UWP apps suddenly won’t open + Explorer crashes on startup Windows 10 I have been experiencing a problem that started 3 days ago. I started the computer up and then explorer kept crashing. I found out what’s going on and I found that explorer was crashing due to a faulty DLL (which in this case was ucrtbase.dll), with error 0xc0000409. I tried commands like sfc /scannow and dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth, but that didn’t fix this issue. Also, after a lot of crashes, explorer successfully loads but I can’t open the start menu, or search anything. Everytime I click on a UWP app, it either says explorer.exe Class is not registered or just do nothing at all. I also tried to re-register UWP apps and rebooting my computer but that didn’t solve the problem. Any fix ideas? Running Windows 10 build 19045.6093

Response

To resolve File Explorer crashes and UWP app issues on Windows 10, first, try re-registering all UWP apps using a PowerShell command. If that fails, disable startup programs and services to identify a conflicting application. You may also need to run DISM commands again in Safe Mode to ensure the system image is healthy, and if the problem persists, consider creating a new user account to see if the issue is profile-specific.

  1. Re-register UWP Apps

This can fix the “Class is not registered” error for UWP apps.

  1. Open Task Manager by pressing Ctrl + Shift + Esc.
  2. Go to the File menu and select Run new task.
  3. Type powershell and check the box for “Create this task with administrative privileges”, then click OK.
  4. In the PowerShell window, enter the following command and press Enter:

  1. After the command completes, restart your computer.

It thinks that the UWP app registering not solving query doesn’t exist but it does. Just refresh few times and it will actually think it exists.
