To install an APK on a Chromebook without enabling Developer Mode, you can use the Linux (Beta) feature. Here’s how to do it:

Enable Linux (Beta)

  1. Go to Settings: Click on the system tray in the bottom right corner and select the gear icon.
  2. Find Linux (Beta): Scroll down to “Developers” and look for the “Linux (Beta)” option.
  3. Turn On Linux: Click “Turn On” and follow the prompts to set it up. This will take a few minutes.

Install APK Using ADB

  1. Set Up ADB: Open the Linux Terminal (you can find it in your app drawer).

    • Update packages:
      sudo apt update
sudo apt install adb

  2. Enable ADB:

    • Go to the Chrome settings and navigate to Settings > Linux (Beta) > Resources > Enable ADB.

  3. Install the APK:

    • Download the APK file you want to install onto your Chromebook.
    • Move the APK file to the Linux files section (you can drag and drop it in the Files app).
    • In the Terminal, use the following command to install the APK:
      adb install /path/to/yourfile.apk
    • Replace /path/to/yourfile.apk with the actual path to your APK file.

  4. Launch the App: Once installed, you can find the app in your app drawer.

Note

Not all APKs will work perfectly due to compatibility issues, as Chrome OS is built primarily for Chrome applications and may not support all Android features.
