What are Assets and how do I purchase them?

I’ve noticed that when i click on my profile, there is a tab called assets among the other tabs. I proceeded to make an asset. However, I do not know what assets do nor how I can purchase them from other users. Can anybody explain what assets are and how I can purchase them? Thanks!
